Digital Nurse’s Assistant
and the era of patient-empowered healthcare
Each year, millions find themselves in a hospital room. During that time, they may be confined to bed, have limited mobility, or experience movement-related pain. Moreover, a hospital stay can feel socially isolating and anxiety-inducing, as the patient has little control over his/her environment and situation.
Our team created a Digital Nurse's assistant—a prototype of a voice-controlled hospital room—to return control to the patient, and connect them with their loved ones. Harnessing the power of an Alexa device, and Arduino we gave the patient the ability to control the room temperature, lights, adjust the bed, track medication schedules, call the nurse, triage patients based on urgency, and display SMS messages and images from loved ones on the in room TV.
